I think the real lines that separate our family from who is Japanese and who is American tend to be the most strictly demarcated during breakfast. Every other meal we eat together the same thing.
Breakfast, however, is a free for all.
Mia usually has an egg, and then some of Naoto’s green tea rice porridge. I have a bagel and cream cheese or cereal or pancakes.
Maika often has pancakes, but in fact, as any two year old does, often wants to eat what daddy or mommy is eating.
So today her breakfast was:
two bites of bagel and cream cheese
four bites of fermented soybeans and rice (natto)
pretty strange, eh?
