I didn’t know wholesome Louisa May Alcott of Little Women fame also wrote racy, gothic thrillers.
But Other Woman Tina handed it out at the last meeting and I thought I’d give it a try while on vacation in Hawaii this past week.
I was surprised. It was good. There were ghostly hands, mad women in secluded towers, evil uncles, etc. all the trappings of gothic tales you would want. But what was missing for me was the all-evil seductress, even her evil seductress is pitiable and human. The stories are written so that even when one knows the truth behind someone’s evil actions, one vacillates on what is truly happening.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
