If you happen to be looking for a good, modern Japanese movie (subtitled in English) on Prime, check out “Key of Life.” It’s a little gem. It starts out with a scene of a magazine editor announcing she’s going to get married next month….but hasn’t found a groom yet. And then it switches to a hitman….. you can see where this might be going. But there’s amnesia involved, and a ne’er do well actor out of work to muck things up. In the hands of a U.S. movie company this would either be slapstick comedy or an action thriller. Not here. Here you have people following society’s rules. Being quietly earnest. Having slow, vague conversations underlaid with unspoken desperation. Surprisingly good movie.
